Galbraith enlightens us to an idea of eliminating poverty. He tells us of Herbert Spencer who believed in Social Darwinism: "the elimination of the poor is nature's way of improving the race." Society can only come to it's full potential if the impoverished leaches are knocked off. Galbraith also tells us of someone he calls a modern-day Spencer. Charles Murray stated that the government should simply cut off welfare, Medicaid and other government aid. Thus eliminating the poor.

With these attitudes, I do not believe that we will be able to even alleviate poverty anytime soon.
