Kitchen Rules

Image
I have a new skillet. I really did need one. All I had was this sorry P.O.S. that Tim left at our place. Ugh. I wonder if I scour that, if it'll save it. I don't know... I bought it from Wal-Mart (13.00!). I brought it home, washed it and read the label, which had care instructions. "Don't use any kind of metal on this skillet, okay?" "Okay." "No metal scouring pad or metal spatulas or anything, okay?" "Okay." There were more rules. On how to wash it and stuff. And after cooking today, I washed my new skillet. I dried it and oiled it. Oh my gosh. I have a pan... with RULES. Totally worth it. Look at my new skillet Isn't it beautiful? It's positively sparkling!

Beef Stroganoff

Hamburger helper is a super easy meal. But it's just as bland and bad for you as it is simple. So, I decided to try my hand at Homemade Hamburger Helper ! My first try was actually with the Chili Cheese variety. It was delicious and I couldn't believe how creamy it was! Today I tried the Beef Stroganoff version -- only I added cheese. I love cheese. It's amazing. It's one of my favorite things ever! My favorite part about cooking is K-Swiss . He's so funny! "Ommmmm. Have I told you how much I love you?" "So, they're right?" ? "The way to a man's heart is through his stomach." In return for cooking, he's doing the chores I hate. He's also promised to play more guitar for me, because it makes me super happy when he plays guitar. Which is fine, because I think cooking is totally fun. It's doing the dishes which suck. Of course, even more fun that cooking by myself is when we cook tog

Blueberry Blankets

So, remember those blueberries ? Well, I only used half of 'em for the muffins. Thank frak. (My new form of editing for you, Tiffasaurus: using BSG curse words word . Even the censors let them through!) So, I made blueberry pancakes!!! My gosh. They were beautiful. Bursting with juices. I wish I had a better photo of them after they berries burst. We added eyes to this little guy, but the mouth was pure happenstance. Okay, tilt your head about 30 degrees to the right. Look familiar? lolololol :-) Anyway, they were quite yummy! I didn't even know if I would like them Seeing as I'm not too fond of blueberries. They're definitely growing on me. ... GROSS. Can you imagine if blueberries were ACTUALLY growing on me. Eww. Creepy!!! K-Swiss , Pete, and Alia chowing down. Nom nom nom. Lastly for your viewing pleasure, Pete's imitation of Peirce Brosnan. Alia

What a waste of blueberries

Mmm... fresh blueberries (well, fresh-ish. I got them from Walmart. I don't know where to buy fresh produce around here, but I'm sure there's somewhere). I decided to make blueberry muffins. I don't actually like blueberries, but   K-Swiss   does. So. Blueberry muffins. Using some quick mix and add in a handful of chopped blueberries. And.... Voila!!! Wait a minute.... Somethings not right here. Why are they so heavy.... The texture is all funky and they're not yummy at all.... They.... they didn't rise! Why didn't they rise? :-( Oh. Right. Baking powder. I mix my own baking powder* and I wanted it to be fresh (did you know baking powder can go off?). I don't know how long it would take for my homemade baking powder to go off, so I thought I'd wait until I actually used the quick mix to add in the baking powder. Turns out I forgot. So, I made some blueberry muffins from a mix I h

What do you think I should do with these?

Letting it all hang out

I woke up last night to much giggling. In my room. And camera flashes. I realize it looks like I'm fake sleeping here. But I'm fully asleep. Well, possibly just starting to stir. Due to the giggling. And what's that, laying on either side of me? I've realized someone is taking pictures now. And laughing. So I'm trying to ignore them, but to me, giggling is infectious. Remy! London! Modestly please!

My little apartment

"This place has a lot of potential!" my sister said, eyeing my tiny apartment. I was quite sure she was thinking of her last apartment. Which, by the way, was magnificent. It was everything that is great about an apartment. Her bedroom was the size of a baseball diamond and had a fireplace! Her kitchen-- don't get me started. She had the most adorable breakfast nook. My apartment is quite a bit smaller. I still really need to clean out the bottom cabinets so I can store my (future) pots and pans in there. (I have a few.... but I desperately need more.) As it stands, they're taking up space which could be used for pantry space. I'm quite fond of my little apartment. Two tiny bedrooms. One tiny bathroom. One tiny living room. A decent sized kitchen with not enough cupboard space. And no place for a table. It's okay. There's a kind of bar area, thought it's a little low. It'll do. Being on the corner of the building, it takes more to heat than the res
