THIS ONE'S FOR YOU, LOU!

Mmmm.... beans and rice. So simple, but ridiculously yummy! I haven't had black beans and rice in a really long time. I picked up a bag of dried black beans at the store today, intent on making it all from scratch. I hear it tastes better, and it's better for you. Anyway, it's cheaper. So, I've got about 2 lbs of dried black beans, which is like, what?, six lbs cooked? That's nuts! What the hell am I going to do with all these freaking beans????

Okay, well tomorrow, I'm going to cook some. I'm going to make black beans and rice for dinner and also some refried black beans to stick in the fridge for munching. REFRIED BLACK BEANS! WHAAAT? Well, what, you think I'm going to go out and buy pinto beans when I have TWO POUNDS OF BLACK BEANS just sitting in my cupboard? TWO POUNDS?

Clearly, I don't cook that often.

I'm also going to make homemade flour tortillas! It looks super easy: just cut shortening into flour. Add some water. Mix. Knead. Let sit. Then shape into tortillas and cook! More details to come after I've actually made them. We'll see if it's as super easy as it looks. Also, if you're feeling a little more adventurous, you can take those tortillas, cut them up and deep fry them. Instant chips.

I'm feeling less adventurous, just to let you know.

To make the tortillas, I need some wax paper, so I'll probably pick up chips while I'm out.

Nom nom nom. Chips and bean dip for tomorrows midnight snack.

Okay. Okay okay okay. I SWEAR (Lou) that I'll take pix of my adventure into black beans and homemade tortillas. I will post them THIS WEEK. That gives me through Saturday. Because there is no way they'll be up by Thursday. I will be busy doing IMPORTANT THINGS. SERIOUS BUSINESS.

I know what I want to wear. I want to wear that cream babydoll dress with the black tie that you wore to the christmas party one year. With patterned tights and black patent leather mary janes and a kick-a** necklace.

I probably won't drive all the way up there for that though. I think I'll scrounge around in Greenville for something. It's in the cooking station, it can't be all that grand.
