Playing With Polish: FA at Taping
It's not the easiest thing in the world to find holographic nail polish at the drugstore. They don't come out that often. But every once in a while you'll find a couple gems. Recently I spotted these two at Walgreens. Wet n Wild's Blue Wants To Be A Millionaire and Hannah Pinktana. The collection also included Buffy the Violet Slayer and SaGreena The Teenage Witch. Yeesh!
At only two bucks a pop, I had to snag these. I used Blue Wants To Be A Millionaire for my first manicure.
I think it's easier to see the holo-goodness of the glitter in images without flash.

Of course, after having a manicure for a couple days one of two things happen. Some of the nails chip or wear down OR I get bored and have to mix it up.
These did not chip in the two days I had them. All my manicures have a base of Total Rx Stuck On You and are topped with Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Anti-Chip Top Coat
To mix it up, I decided to try taping. My first attempt! I've always heard that one coaters are better for taping, since you can't exactly let the polish dry before putting on a second coat (more on that in a minute). For my second color, I chose Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Presto Pewter.
I ripped off five pieces of Scotch tape and stuck them each to the back of my hand. This gets rid of a bit of the stickiness. You want the tape to stick to your nails, but not to leave a residue. I applied the tape to my nails diagonally and made sure that it was even, flat, and there were no bubbles or bumps in the tape along the edge.
I painted one coat on to my thumbnail and removed the tape immediately afterwards. If the polish is allowed to dry on your nails, some of the new polish will come up with you remove the tape. So, do each nail one at a time. I finished with another layer of top coat.
