Capsule Wardrobe: 2013

I've been thinking about capsule wardrobes lately. I've done a short one in the past when KSwiss and I were moving. This time it's less of necessity. My closet has been overwhelming as of late and I just can't be bothered to think about it in the mornings. I've realized that I'm living in a kind of capsule wardrobe. I wear basically the same thing to work every day: skinny trousers, blouse/tee, cardigan, pumps/flats.

Now, I have a BURSTING closet and I know there are things in there that I do not wear. It's not that I want to get rid of anything right now (no, T-Rex, you cannot keep those dresses), but I'd like to see if I can par down my wardrobe a little. I know that there are lovely things that I'm not wearing that I might wear (my long dark red skirt from Toronto, for example). They're hiding and I can't be bothered to find them. 

So here is what I'm going to do. I have a big green tub in my closet, as well as a few boxes left over from the move. I'm going to place the majority of my clothing in those boxes (what will fit anyway) and see if I even notice.

When I was mentally selecting the items that I wanted, I divided them into three columns. Primary, my main and favorite work outfits, Seconday, my lesser worn but good on laundry day outfit, and Casual, my favorite weekend clothing. Boots are still in secondary because it's a bit toasty for them yet. Sandals are in secondary because I prefer to wear closed toe shoes. The accessories are simply the accessories I wear the most. I'm not going to limit myself as far as my accessories go. I'm also not counting layering tank tops, gym clothing, or lounge clothing. One can never have too many tank tops or lounge pants, I think.

Here is a very interesting development from last years capsule: no skirts, no dresses. Shocking, actually. I haven't worn a skirt or dress in a month I think. If I do, it's a black pencil skirt. I still love my black pencil skirts, but until it's cooler out, I can't be bothered. Shaving legs and all. What a hassle.
